A Day in the Life of An Intensive Driving Student
After obtaining your provisional driving license and passing your theory test, you are ready to commence your practical driving lessons. You will meet with your fully DVSA registered instructor to begin your driving lessons. While weekly driving lessons on average take one or two hours, intensive driving lessons are between three to five hours per day. This will enable you to gain practical experience in a short time span. You will also be able to better retain what you learn.
Once in your vehicle you will be made familiar with all the features and instruments you will need for driving. You will also be guided through vehicle safety checks before you can safely drive off. During your daily lesson you will cover any of the following driving skills:
- Signalling and lane changes
- Merging into traffic
- Turns and manoeuvres
- Safe parking
- Safe stopping and starting
- Use of car mirrors
- Adjusting your speed
- Driving on dual carriageways, junctions and through roundabouts
- Stopping at pedestrian crossings
- Emergency stops
- Safe navigation software usage
- Adapting to various road conditions
Some techniques will differ depending on whether you are learning in a manual or automatic vehicle. But overall you will have a greater understanding of practical driving skills by the end of the day. Each day you will learn more, gain more experience and feel more confident – by the end of the week you should be ready to take your practical driving test.
